Records

When I read and write, I guarantee music is playing.

I listen to a LOT of music. Most of the time I am awake, there is music playing. So while it would be impossible to keep up on every record I am listening to, here are a few that have been spinning recently.

Fine China – I Felt Called

I used to play Fine China when I had a Christian rock show decades ago. But the stuff they have been putting out the last few years is so much better! IMO, they have an Echo and the Bunnymen meets The Smiths sort of vibe, most evident in the guitar tones. This record is lush. And ironic, and very infections.

The Cure - Songs of a Lost World

I have gotten married, had two kids, married off a daughter and became a grandpa since the last album from The Cure was released. But they delivered one of my favorite records of theirs, and the best record of the year, with this album. It is a sonic journey through death and grief. Loss of a loved on has never sounded more beautiful. Epic as the lives that inspired it, this record is amazing.

Ramones – Greatest Hits

So much great music packed into fifty minutes. Only punk rock can do that. And only the Ramones can deliver this many stellar tracks. This was released on vinyl for the first time for Record Store Day’s Black Friday, and I am loving it. I’ve dug the Ramones for years, and own almost everything they recorded, but this collection is simply punk rock perfection.

Rock Quarry

Rock Rules. It may not be the titleholder genre it used to be, but rock music, with all its guitars and its many varieties, will never die.  Here is a decades-spanning, multi-genre set of tunes that have filled my ears the last few days. Let it fill yours until a new setlist arrives in a couple weeks.
